Drawing Supplies For This Tutorial:
HB pencil, Prismacolor Pencils – Mineral Orange, Jasmine, Light Peach, Pink, Beige, Yellow Ochre, Peach, Goldenrod, Pumpkin Orange, Pink Rose, Clay Rose, Tuscan Red, Henna, Terra Cotta, Poppy Red, Light Umber & Sienna Brown.
Draw the Outline
Step 1: Take an HB pencil and draw the outline of the nose. Try not to draw using too much pressure or you can risk indenting the paper. I always draw lightly. I have had to make this drawing darker so you can see my outlines.
First Layers
Step 2: Use Mineral Orange and shade in both nostrils, followed by Pumpkin Orange.
Step 3: Layer the entire nose with Jasmine as a basecoat and follow this with Light Peach. Always have your pencils sharp. Shade with light-medium pressure.
Step 4: Add Pink over the previous layers you have shaded, but this time you will exclude highlighted areas. Follow this with Beige and repeat the same steps.
Step 5: Next, layer Yellow Orchre in the shadowed areas to help them pop out more.
Step 6: Take Mineral Orange and shade around the outside of nostril areas and shadowed areas.
Building Up Tones
Step 7: We want darker shadowed areas, so let’s shade over them with Peach and then lightly over highlights areas.
Step 8: Next, take Goldenrod and shade overshadowed areas and very light over light areas & highlights. Follow the same step by using Pink.
Step 9: Shade using Pumpkin Orange overshadowed areas with medium pressure on the bottom of the nose & under the nostrils.
Step 10: Shade over the entire nose using Pink Rose. Follow this by using Pumpkin Orange over the shadowed areas.
Step 11: Using very light pressure, shade Clay Rose under the nostril areas. Next, shade Tuscan Red in the nostrils with Henna in the area below the nostrils.
Step 12: Shade Terra Cotta in the darker shadowed areas and use Poppy Red on the shadowed area on the bottom of the nose and below the nostrils.
Step 13: Using Pink again, shade over the entire nose with light pressure followed by Light Peach, excluding highlighted areas.
Step 14: Using light pressure shade Light Umber in the shadowed areas along the sides & under nostrils and the bottom of the nose. Follow this with Sienna Brown on the shadowed areas on each side of the nostrils.
Step 15: As we are building up the layers of coloured pencils, using a light shade over the nose will help to blend them together. So take Beige using medium pressure all over the nose.
Layer another coat of Light Peach if needed. You can dab out highlights with a kneaded eraser if they don’t show too well.
